You, Deadbeat Parents of Little Black Boys, did not realize that a two-year-old that curse may seem cute (it’s not) but would soon turn into a six-year-old that cursed his teachers; then morph into a ten-year-old with no respect for his elders; finally becoming a teen with no regard for humanity. All the while you stood back and watched – encouraged the degenerate behavior by cursing his teachers, calling him little-man and endearingly referring to him as ‘pimp’ or ‘playa’. You were oblivious to your contribution to his eventual murderous ways.

The beating death of Derrion Albert have us once again asking the question as to how to end the violence in the black community. Despite the outcry, vigils, community policing and marches, the ebb and flow of violence in the black community is always higher in comparison to other communities.

The Plight of Black Men: The Ditch

Whenever the discussion about the state of black men comes up, inevitably someone will toss in the cliché about overcoming racism, poverty or the ‘victim mentality’. It is a valid discussion but it does not get to the meat of the issue and that is the despair, hopelessness and low self-esteem that plague man young black males. The only way to overcome this is to inspire young brothers to build self-worth. People are not responsible for things they do not value. So personal responsibility is a mute point to someone that does not value their person or the people around them.
