Progressive Leaders Urge Obama To Have Courage

This week marks the first anniversary of Barack Obama’s historic election as president. Progressive leaders from Illinois played no small role in shaping his political career and ultimately his national victory, which opened the door to the promise of change on so many fronts. This afternoon, many of those same leaders commemorated the occasion by joining together at a Chicago rally and urging their old friend to have courage on progressive issues as he moves forward in Washington.

Derrion Albert: He can be the last to die

At some point, community and political leaders will have to take seriously the plight of young black men. The beating death of Derrion Albert have us once again asking the question as to how to end the violence in the black community. Despite the outcry, vigils, community policing and marches, the ebb and flow of violence in the black community is always higher in comparison to other communities.

Bring the Olympics to Chicago

I had my doubts about Chicago’s Olympic bid. The main question being, how could we afford it? No city had pulled off an Olympic event without cost overruns. For a city that is facing a $250 million deficit in an economy where financing is difficult to obtain, it is not hyperbole to suggest that the tax payers will be on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars.
The debate in the black community is one of us getting “our fair share of the pie”. Mayor Daley’s office is projecting $10 …
